Ultimately, NEW PRISM was launched by myself (Sophie Pearson) as a freelance, independent events promotion company, to collaborate with up-and-coming artists across Manchester and potentially surrounding cities. As the founder of NEW PRISM, I have never just been into one genre of music it can go from alternative pop to house to indie rock... Let’s be honest a diverse playlist is more interesting :) I attended my first concert when I was 6 years old and I didn't just pay attention to what the headliner was performing, but also other details including the expressed emotion, the support acts, lighting choices, visuals and the atmosphere of the audience. Most importantly I started to find my path in the music industry when I studied for my degree in Event Management and Music Business at BIMM Manchester, now studying for an MA in Popular Music Practice where I am focusing my studies on music marketing and promotion.​ 

 

This has played a huge part in the direction that NEW PRISM is taking, music plays a crucial part in everyone’s life both emotionally and socially without even realising it, and every artist starts from somewhere. The purpose of A NEW PRISM EVENT (s) is to showcase a range of local acts from around Manchester, but instead of just consisting of Manchester’s popular Indie sounds I book artists of varied styles and backgrounds, exposing locals across the city to new sounds of music.

A NEW PRISM EVENT (s) also acts as a charity fundraiser, where 50% of any profit made is donated to a charity, the two charities we have raised money for so far are Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie. The other 50% goes into a pot for NEW PRISM, in support of our independent company, ensuring we have funding to go towards future events and projects. This not only works in favour of our company and our viability, but also the acts involved as they are always welcome back to collaborate with NEW PRISM events or seek professional advice.
